Physical Properties of Bisphenol S
Bisphenol S is white acicular crystal. Easily soluble in aliphatic hydrocarbon, soluble in ethanol, isopropyl alcohol, 2-ethyl hexyl alcohol, acetonitrile, acetone, slightly soluble in aromatics, slightly soluble in ethyl acetate, methyl isobutanone, insoluble in toluene, water. The molecule contains two hydroxyl groups and a strong electron – absorbing sulfone group, so the acid is stronger than other phenols. Low toxicity.
Bisphenol S Uses
- Bisphenol S is mainly used as dye fixing agent.
- It can also be used as plating solution additive, leather tanning agent, dispersant for high temperature dyeing of disperse dyes, phenolic resin hardening promoter, resin flame retardant, etc.
- It can also be used as pesticides, dyes, additives intermediate.
- As a substitute for bisphenol A, it can be used as a raw material for polycarbonate, epoxy resin, polyester, phenolic resin, and polysulfone, polyether sulfone.
- It can be also used in the manufacturing of color photographic materials, photographic contrast enhancers, thermal recording materials (color development agents), domestic/daily surfactants and high efficiency deodorants.

Bisphenol S Production Process
The existing synthesis technology of Bisphenol S is to synthesize Bisphenol S with sulfuric acid and phenol in the presence of solvent trimethylbenzene and inhibitors at high temperature of 230℃.
