L-Tryptophan is a neutral aromatic amino acid containing indolyl, which is white or yellowish crystal or powder. It has a solubility of 1.14g (25°C) in water, soluble in dilute acid or dilute base, stable in lye, and decomposed in strong acid. Slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in chloroform, ether.
